8K a year Under limited supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; performs related work as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS Diagnose, rebuild and repair vehicles and equipment.
Consult with coach drivers on problems incurred while the coach is in active service.
Accept calls after normal business hours to conduct coach repairs.
(on-call status) Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Shop and wash bay maintenance.
o Maintain Clean-burn oil filter Change light bulbs o Repair broken water hoses Repair and maintain equipment Other duties as requested by the Terminal Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs.
Safety practices and procedures.
Working knowledge of:
Knowledge of body work.
Mechanical design and fabrication.
Electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems.
Skill in:
Use of power and hand tools.
Use of diagnostic equipment.
Use of oxygen and Acetylene settling torches.
Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
Ability to:
Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field when necessary.
Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
Prepare and maintain records and reports.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specifications.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or the equivalent.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
A minimum of one year of experience in vehicle equipment repair.
General knowledge of vehicle mechanical operations.
Knowledge of pneumatic air systems and breaks preferred.
ASE certification preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS The Mechanic works in the service lane, which is in an open garage area.
Position requires stooping, bending and moving throughout the service department.
May lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
Works with service customers for most of the shift.
May work with a Video Display Terminal.
He/she will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
Road-testing of vehicles also may be required.
A current Vermont Drivers License required.
CDL preferred within six months of employment.
EVALUATION The Service Supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
